Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
This policy explains what WriteSignal ("we", operated by [Legal Entity Name]) collects, why, and the choices you have. It reflects how the product actually works today.
Information we collect
Account data. Your email address, authentication identifiers, and (optionally) linked Google/Apple sign-in identities, plus a display name and chosen mode (Writer or Educator).
Content you submit. Text you analyze, proofread, rewrite, humanize or grade, and — in Educator batch review — the submissions you upload. Saved analyses store the full text plus a short excerpt.
Usage data. Records of the actions you take (analysis, comparison, batch item, export, assistant check), including timestamps, word counts, model version and processing duration, used for quotas, billing and product metrics.
How your text is processed
The Detect and Inspect tools run entirely in your browser — that text is not sent to our servers.
The Proofread, Rewrite/Paraphrase, Humanize, Grade and Reader Reactions features send your text to a third-party AI provider (currently the Lovable AI gateway using Google Gemini, with an OpenAI fallback) purely to generate the result. We do not use your content to train our own models, and we contract our AI sub-processors to not train on content submitted through the API. See Sub-processors for the current list.
Retention
Saved analyses and usage records are retained while your account is active. Educator batch submissions are automatically purged after 180 days; raw usage telemetry after 400 days. You can delete individual saved analyses at any time, or delete your entire account (below), which erases your data immediately.
Your rights & choices
From Settings → Data & privacy you can export a complete copy of your data as JSON, and permanently delete your account and all associated data. Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, port, or erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact [privacy@your-domain] to exercise these rights.
Students & children (FERPA / COPPA)
When an educational institution uses WriteSignal to process student records, we act as a service provider / school official under FERPA and process that data only on the institution's instructions under a data processing agreement. WriteSignal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data without verifiable parental or school consent. Institutions serving minors should contact us to put an appropriate agreement in place before uploading student work.
Security
We use encryption in transit, row-level database isolation so users can only access their own data, server-side enforcement of permissions and quotas, and rate limiting. See our Security page for details. No system is perfectly secure; we continue to invest in hardening the product.
